It isn't entirely what I wasn't expecting. I was hoping for something baffling and introspective and I got just that. I think your review is fitting but I have one observation I'd like to share. I did not feel that the purpose of the bears was sexual interaction. I think sex as a whole was treated as a means to relieve the stress of the members of the Jeffers society but as many who have been in high stress situations (be it career or family) can attest, it's hard to feel randy when you're overwhelmed. Like all else, Jeffers sought to solve the "problem" in their own way, as opposed to allowing nature (and the independent self) to determine the lives and behavior of human beings. Hence the aggressive "pep talk" given to George by Roger Dodger, the importance placed on sex in the happiness book, and then the seemingly inappropriate question about sexual relations between employees and the Cuddle Creatures. I feel like the Cuddle Creatures were an attempt to create any form of intimacy and comfort in hopes this would be "enough" to quell the onslaught of inevitable explosions. Their purpose was not for sex, but for any kind of relief. Sex just happened to be an option. Much like our society a great deal of importance is placed on sex. I think Visioneers made a nod towards this with the sexual references and its significance in the life of George. I feel like this film had many layers, many of which couldn't possibly be seen or understood the first time through, and perhaps ever. I commend you for at least watching it and giving a well thought out review. Cheers from Alabama (fairly void of hipsters and film snobs). I think this movie is more important than we first realized and I love that it keeps opening up in different ways the more I think about it. I will definitely plan to see it! But I don't know what a lens flare is, so I guess it can't distract me! :) Thanks for keeping me informed about new movies! Glad you can see them when they first come out now! Hard to believe after looking at the trailer that the writer would actually have the driver of that truck survive. Improbability can be distracting to me! Great review! I will definitely plan to see it! (thank goodness) I never noticed the lens flare a SINGLE TIME. Perhaps that's because I like it, too? Who knows! I'm just surprised I never noticed it. Loved the movie and agree that it was the perfect summer flick! It just goes to show you how much detail you don’t notice in a movie when you don’t have to sit directly beside Paul Hunton.
