It’s no secret that exercise is important. It’s great for the mind and body, so why do so few people take part in some sort of exercise every day? With so many enjoyable options available, it seems almost asinine that more people don’t exercise regularly. For those that do, however, exploring new methods of exercise is always a fun way to spice up a routine. One form of exercise some might not think much about is dancing. From the rumba and swing to the tango, waltz, and ballroom dancing, there are more than enough variations of dance to keep everyone from beginners to experts occupied and having fun. Fortunately, many towns across the country have a dance studio or two where residents of all ages can enroll in fun dance classes.

Not only are more people turning to dance as a form of exercise, but many are joining the sport for fun or to learn a new skill for a special occasion. For example, enrolling in ballroom dance lessons is very popular among brides. But what is a ballroom dance? How does it differ from, say, the tango? Well, simply put, a ballroom dance merely refers to the 10 different dances of International Ballroom and International Latin. Nowadays, brides and grooms excitedly sign up for ballroom dance lessons in an effort to make their first dance together as husband and wife more special. Sometimes even fathers and daughters will sign up for dance classes to make the traditional father daughter dance one for the memory books.

But enough about weddings. What about dance as a form of exercise? As mentioned before, people in America really don’t exercise as often as they should. In fact, recent studies suggest that less than five percent of adults partake in at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. And it’s not just adults who have gotten lazier, children have as well. That’s why more people need to give dancing a try. Few people actually enjoy logging hours in at a crowded gym. It’s a lot more fun to dance and just let loose for a bit. Dancing is a great workout for the mind and body and even helps dancers burn a high number of calories per hour. For example, a 150-pound person can burn an estimated 240 calories each hour of dancing.
