This video will help you decide which server type you need to pick for your Minecraft server. To join a Minecraft server, first find a server you like the sound of – like any of the ones mentioned below – and grab the IP address. Start the game, click ‘multiplayer’, then ‘add a server’.

Next, pop in the IP address and name the server.

Every server is its own self-contained multiplayer world, with its own rules, gameplay style, and communities. Picking your server type is pretty easy, you go to the pre-install menu. The first option is paper. Paper is the version that is recommended for use. Paper is well optimized so it runs easily on your server. It supports all plugins as well. The next server is spigot. Spigot was used mainly before paper came out. It does still support loads and loads of versions but only supports spigot plugins (and not buckkit). The next option is craftbukkit, otherwise known as bukkit. This one is already outdated. The undisputed most popular Minecraft server currently is Hypixel. With over 100,000 players on the network at peak hours, the competition isn’t even close to catching up.
